INNER PEACE RECORDS PRESENTS...
DIGGING CRATES VOL. 1
Rawz devised, developed and creatively lead this cross genre, cross-disciplinary decolonial music project in one of the world's leading anthropological museums.
Using objects from the African instrument collections held in the Pitt Rivers Museum as inspiration, artists from Inner Peace Records composed new music inside the museum space, working in collaboration with musicians from colonised nations in Africa, among objects taken from communities all over the world.
Sampling the sounds of instruments linked to the museum's African instrument collection, the team created original Hip Hop tracks exploring the legacy of colonialism and empire.
Alongside this 7 track album, the project produced a one hour documentary recorded during the main four days of activity in the museum. The film has been shown to two sold out cinema audiences.
This music video was shot inside the museum's main gallery as part of the project.
EPISODE ONE
EPOCH
The EPOCH album by Episode One was the soundtrack to an immersive exhibition spread across five rooms, each themed around specific time periods. The group attempted to capture the zeitgeist of previous eras by using technology and methods of the corresponding age to compose new music.

1950s Hip Hop
Captured on reel to reel tape at Sugar Ray’s Vintage Recording Studio; one of the world’s only fully functional 1950s recording studios, this session was filmed for a special on popular independent music channel Bopflix.
Episode One used world-first recording techniques to immortalise their interpretation of this pivotal decade in global history. Featuring the first known raps recorded through a 1955 RCA 44-BX Microphone (made famous by Elvis) and synthesised sub-bass picked up by a microphone manufactured in 1938.
